Clothing During Pregnancy

Clothing During PregnancyYou need to wear comfortable clothes throughout pregnancy. Following are a few guidelines for clothing during pregnancy:

Start wearing loose clothes from the fourth month of pregnancy.

Wear lightweight cotton clothes, especially if you feel warmer during pregnancy.

Do not wear any tight belts, brassiere, slacks, tight pants, corsets, tight underwear, knee caps, etc.

Use an abdominal support only if you were obese before pregnancy and had poor abdominal muscle tone. Routine wear of abdominal support is not necessary.

Wear loose underwear, preferably cotton, so that they are able to absorb sweat and vaginal secretions. Change your underwear at least twice a day if you sweat excessively and/ or have vaginal secretions.

Ensure that socks or any other clothing on the legs do not stop the circulation. Reduced blood circulation in the legs leads to varicose veins, a condition in which there is enlargement of the veins.

Wear ’shoes that are flat-heeled. High heels increase the risk of falling down and cause backache.

Avoid wearing heeled shoes as they do not provide adequate comfort and support to the feet. Try to wear the same type of footwear that you find comfortable throughout pregnancy. Many women, especially those who are ill or have loose ligaments of the foot joints, tend to develop flat feet during pregnancy. Hence it is advised that you wear flat-heeled comfortable shoes if you need to stand for long hours.
