It is not surprising to find women with breast lumps. In fact, 60 percent of all women have had some breast lumps at one point especially during their reproductive years. Furthermore, statistics show that around three out of ten women in the U.K. come to their physician to complain about a lump in their breast. Though 80 percent of all breast lumps develop into something that is not cancerous and would not call for any treatment plan, it’s still best to have your breasts tested at the earliest possible opportunity.

Biopsy breast lump is almost always the diagnostic exam of choice whenever there’s a questionable lump in a woman’s breast. A mammogram is initially carried out but a biopsy breast lump will be ordered later on should the mammogram reveal questionable results. Biopsy breast lump is an invasive procedure where a small breast tissue sample is suctioned through needle or surgery and then sent to the pathology lab for examination.

Though various breast biopsy procedures are performed quite differently, their objective remains the same. A biopsy breast lump procedure has different types: fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB), core needle biopsy (CNB), stereotactic core needle biopsy, vacuum-assisted core biopsy (VACB), MRI-guided biopsy, ultrasound-guided biopsy, and surgical/excisional biopsy. As previously mentioned, biopsy breast lump procedures may be performed quite differently from each other but the objective remains the same – to figure out if the lump in question is cancer, and if so, what kind of cancer it is.

One of two results will come back to you after a pathologist examines your breast tissue sample under a microscope – negative or positive. If you have a negative biopsy breast lump result, you can now make a sigh of relief because it means that no cancer was found. On the flip side, a positive biopsy breast lump result is indicative of cancer because malignant cells were found upon examination.

When a woman discovers that she has a lump in her breast, all sorts of thoughts run through her head. Some refuse to believe it, others become anxious, many are filled with fear, and many others just fret to death. Remember though that when you discover a lump in your breast, the best thing to do is to see your doctor. If you’re worry is cancer, a simple biopsy breast lump can answer all the questions in your head.

It is more frequent in women under the age of 35, during or within one year of pregnancy; even axillary nodes are involved in some cases.

Cancer occurring during pregnancy is not more aggressive than other breast cancers but the diagnosis is often delayed because of enlarging breast. It is treated with the recommended approaches of management.

In the early pregnancy (first two trimesters) early stage cancer is treated with surgery. There is no evidence that pregnancy promotes breast cancer or that surgery harms the foetus.

Termination of pregnancy does not influence the results of treatment and depends entirely on the patient’s wishes or the stage of cancer. Pregnancy in later stages (third trimester) can be carried on till delivery. Treatment of cancer can follow subsequently. Immediate surgery can be considered if the tumour is large or locally advanced. Cancers detected and treated in the first half of pregnancy have shown better results in terms of survival. Radiotherapy is not recommended during pregnancy unless the cancer in third trimester is fast growing, while chemotherapy in early stages of pregnancy carries risk of foetal damage.

It is better to wait for about 2-3 years after the successful treatment of breast cancer before having a further pregnancy. That is enough time for recurrence, if any, to occur. But in case the family is complete, it is best avoided, because any recurrence affects the health of the family.
